My Favorite Sugar Cookie

My Aunt used to make the best sugar cookies.  Over the years I tried to make them just like hers but they always came out more thick and chewy (which isn't bad) but I love a light crispy cookie that melts in your mouth.  A friend shared this family recipe with me a few years ago . . .

Preheat oven to 375°

cream together until light and fluffy
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

sift together and add to 1st mixture (mix well)
4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

roll into small balls
place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
press cookies with a glass dipped in sugar
bake 8-12 minutes (don't let cookies get brown)

let cookie sheet cool for 5 minutes
cookies will firm up and are easier to pick up
transfer cookies to cooling rack

note: you will need to use a little butter on the bottom of your glass before dipping in sugar for the first time.

Christmas Cookies

... just playing around with my new cutters ... need to work on my pipe writing skills ...

It's a boy and a girl!

My first time making these cookies. The outline piping consistency was a little too runny so it's not as neat as I would like, but the babies turned out pretty cute.  I'll post back later to list all the neat little ideas I found online.

I help serve meals to families with new babies, lost loved ones or illness. So tonight I was able to deliver the little boy baby cookies!

Below was an image I played around with in photoshop to try and come up with a design ... But I need more equipment if I'm going to do the text. I'm too shaky.

Bird and Blooms Cookie

I am hosting a table at our church's ladies holiday dinner and need some party favors.  What better than a cute cookie that coordinates with my table theme!
I cut out some sugar cookies and fondant icing.  I used a rubber stamp from Michaels and brushed on Wilton's peach food color and voila!  I am so pleased with them.  My guests will love them.  And they taste great!
